Decision Time

Post by dobbor1 » Wed Jan 30, 2013 9:06 pm

Ok guys help me out here. Nearly time to decide which way to go. Andrive, Dynavin, Hualingan, any other Chinese stuff. Double din really expensive and a pig to install. Don't want to destroy my dash so OEM look it is. I have read millions of posts on millions of forums and to be honest it's like choosing a holiday with far too many brochures in the house. So confused. This is the last throw of the dice so come on chaps inspire me :D

Was looking myself for a while then decided not to bother at all - upgrade would be nice but decided not worth the spend so stuck with whats there.

Interested to see what you go for though - your thread may change my mind!?

I just hope it generates some good feedback from guys who already own the systems and also guys who have really good knowledge.

i have factory satnav, decided to live with it.

my reasoning:
- oem satnav can be upgraded to latest sw and maps very cheap
- i def. wanted to retain oem looks so my choice limited to dyna and hoolio only
- one ran a windows os which was a no no for me (hoolio?), other had an android version (dyna?) which i liked but was very expensive
- single point of failure - this is chinese sh1t, when it fails your stereo, cd, ipod, tv, satnav it all goes together, compared to the oem setup which is in components
- feedback on the forums re. dyna (which from memory had an android version) had mixed reviews not positive
- oem setup means no loosing obc functionality
- plus stuff like speed related volume control- does it work with htis chinese shi1t? i doubt it
- key memory which i love (so that i don't have to listen to my mrs choice of music!) would not work non-oem

the alternative
- easy enuf to fix an intravee and get ipod support as an alternative, that plus satnav sw and map upgrade made the originally useless setup much more 'livable' (although i admit not 'lovable').

so i'm 'living' with it, no complains so far.

u did ask  :P

My Hooligan is a mk4. My biggest criticism is the interface which I understand has been sorted on the now available mk5. It looks factory and does exactly what you would expect it to. I got a 2 year warranty and a free reverse camera. I would defiantly buy another, but it would have to be mk5. There will be a raft of old stock mk4 and I've even seen mk3 being touted about, so be careful buying from eBay.

I have the Business Cassette version....

I was thinking of changing but it was the loss of the OBC that stopped me.
I know its a little thing and can be overcome by putting the MID in the glovebox but wasn't happy with that.

Ended up fitting 2 amps in the rear and adding a pair of 10" speakers and know have something sounding ok.

I suppose if you go down the Carputer route you could put on ther whatever you like...including attaching to the iBus for the OBC functions and more...
Have seen some using the factory nav screen so looks OEM

I have been toying with that for a while but still uncertain whether to throw some serious time in developing it further....
If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

Dobber.
Are you going to the Midlands meet ? if you are it will be  like a showroom for aftermarket headunits, I have a Dynavin, there will be Haulingan units,as well as double Din, and OEM.
It would be good for you to see them in the flesh, and to have a play. Im hoping to have my MID moved to the rear cubby in the boot by then as well, as its a bit of a pain in the glovebox.
