iPhone snap in + eject box upgrade.

Not the most exciting upgrade even, but nice for a totally oem job. 2006 e53 with old type eject box.

Using the official oem parts including a wiring adapter. Now my iPhone 4S fits nicely in the armrest, charges and even gets a small signal boost thanks to an inductive connection to the cars main phone antenna .



Total time taken 15 minutes.

I bought the cradle but didn't realise I needed to change the bit it clips into. Was going to get it when the weather is better and finish the cabling. What was the part number and price of the adaptor?

Eject-Box 84.21.2.222.122 £66.25+vat (before any discounts)
Adapter-Cable 84.10.9.205.271 £12.34+vat (before discounts)
Cradle 84.21.2.199.389 £64.17+vat (before discount)

The cables on the Eject box are a little long, but they just about squeeze into the space inside the armrest. And the clips that hold the original eject box in are slightly different, so a little bit of double sided sticky, or that tar goo helps keep the new eject box in place.

Once fitted it works great. No complaints

Just a minor update:
Charges phone just great. No obvious overheating issues. I think the inductive antenna is working and allowing the phone to use less power as its running at lower rf power levels due to the increased signal.

Gains about 1 bar of signal in the cradle. Strangely it also boosts the wifi signal too. Parked outside my house no wifi. Phone in cradle 3 rings of wifi signal.

Shame iphone didn't implement Bluetooth SMS but to be fair texting while driving is unsafe anyway so it's safer to ignore texts while driving so I am fine with that.

Perhaps ill add a Bluetooth streaming module to my bm54 radio module one day.

Saw the ac schnitzer pedals on fleabay - what other AC bits have you added apart from trim,wheels and pedals?

Can be interfaced into the OE satnav screen (I did originally).

I've only got the AC interior trim and boot lip spoiler. My pedals are the OE jobbies and my rims are Alpina's now with BBS's for winter.

I think I might do this as well and ditch the old Sony Ericsson k800i that I leave permanently connected in the car as its no longer charging properly anyway.    By the way, you could not send texts via the nav screen set up, only read them or delete them, so no great loss.

Excuse me if this is an ill considered stupid question but you have a phone in your car that fits the snap in case thingy. So when you get in your car for a long journey do you divert calls from your normal mobile to the 'car' phone or do you take the sim out of your 'normal' mobile and put it in the car phone for the journey. Or maybe you keep a sim in 'car' phone just to make calls out on? Please help as i'm looking at all available comms solutions!

You can either divert all calls or just use your normal phone - assuming it fits the snap-in.  If you have the full in car system that BMW offered where you had a Bluetooth handset in the car, then you plugged your normal SIM into a little holder and the car system was then your normal phone.

It was fiddly, but given all the issues with BMW and Bluetooth compatibility in the early years, it was the best option for me in 2004.  I had a Nokia 6310i at the time so just moved the SIM back and forth.
