My Estoril 4.6is

Post by JimmySpeed » Mon Apr 01, 2013 12:29 am

Any BMWland regulars can click back now as they would have seen this already.  :))

Purchased this about 2 weeks ago. Always wanted one and didn't feel I needed the economy of my e90 320d anymore so thought what the hell!

Came with a prins lpg conversion with 12 months warranty remaining and a tracker fitted so 2 boxes ticked (tracker was the only way my insurance would cover me, I doubt anyone is actually stealing 10 year old cars now! )

Above the usual 4.6is options, the spec is:

Mk4 Nav/TV (standard on 4.6?)
Auxiliary heater
folding mirrors
electric recline rear seats
sliding load floor
black nappa
piano black trim

It came with the depo angel eyes fitted but they're not xenon! One of the previous owners fitted them. Luckily, the xenon ballasts are both in place still so I will probably obtain some OEM xenons, clear out the internals like I did on my 4.4i and put some AE rings in them.

It also came with an all chrome aftermarket grille which I  changed out for the OEM chrome surround/titanium slats pretty much immediately! The chrome grilles are for sale if anyone is interested...

Coming from a 4.4i Sport 2 cars ago, what amazes me about the 4.6 is how different it feels to drive. Its like a different car completely, similar but on a different level at the same time. I thought I wouldn't like the famous 'light' steering but I love it. Its very much like when I chopped in my e46 330ci sport for an e46 M3 -  thought it would be the same but faster however there were so many little differences it was not like that at all.

Here's a couple of pics with some amateur processing courtesy of my new favorite app snapseed:grin:

Thank you both.

I'm actually a long time member here - been around since 2011 when I had the first X.  ;)

I can assure you those 200+ posts I have are not just from the last 2 weeks  :))

Hi I also have the 4.6is in the same colour, personally I think it's one of the very nicest colours to have the X5 in, but hay that's my opinion. I've had mine for 10-months now, and not bad at all.
As your a veteran BM owner you may have come across the problems with the two rear most, engine vent hoses, (located at the rear of the engine (rocker-box) cover), apparently these pipes are notoriously for clogging up, perishing, and breaking away.
Here's the two vent hoses and part nos.

Item 4 - Vent hose  Part # 11 15 7 556 837
Item 5 - Vent hose  Part # 11 15 7 556 838
Yours may have been done, depends on the previous owners. I didn't know anything about these until a BM tech. mate gave my X5 a look over, just thought I'd give you the heads-up

Thanks for the heads up - not come across this issue before, and I had a 4.4 previously. Will check those pipes next time i'm working under there.

Esoril is one of my favourite BMW colours. I had an estoril clubsport in the past too. Its a brilliant colour in person but is hard to capture in photos properly - hence the processing!

Neighbours brothers (2 brothers) both leave their e30s on his drive. There is a blue one behind the white one. Both are a bit tatty up close though.

Judging by the 'Steeles For Sale' sign you live local to me. Will look out for your seriously good looking X around the area!
