After a lot of research it does appear that BM engines are pretty robust for LPG'ing. A lot of issues on plenty of other manufacturers, hence the reason for going for it this time round.

Non BMW engine range rovers burn valves for fun without the additional lubricant, amongst many other cars, but the bmw v8s just don't have that issue. If any engine is good for converting its these! My case is exceptionally rare and the problem could even pre date the conversion for all I know...

I agree. The issue may have been there but the LPG could have accelerated the problem though. But as you say they are god for it so fingers crossed. Booked in a week Monday.

My 4.4 was converted before I brought it but all the paper work shows it was done in 2004 at 38030 miles by AFS in Billingshurst Sussex. After buying it I had them service the system and they upgraded the injectors, this was the first time they had seen the car since conversion (great guys by the way very helpful).
Since conversion the car has covered 58420 and I have driven a little over 8000 of those miles since purchase with no issues at all. The guys at AFS say the X5 V8's are pretty much bullet proof.

I hope you get your problems sorted with out to pain to the wallet.
