Adding a sub

Post by saicab » Tue Apr 09, 2013 2:00 am

Hi ,
I have a 53plate X5 with no satnav. I want to add a sub as the bass is crap from the original speakers. Good thing the battery is in the boot so power and earth not a problem but where will I get the line outputs for the amp from?.
Has anyone else tried this and was the bass improvement worth it?
Any help much appreciated.

Having done it on both my x5s, is an hour's work and that includes me driving like a loon to finish the lpg in the tank so it's light enough for me to lift it out the way!

The battery and earth are easy as you imagine, the sound I take by t-ing into the rear speaker wires which are described in the link below. The remote is just a white wire that's on the same loom.

I use a high level input to rca converter on the speaker connections.

See page 5 of this pdf for the speaker wire colors http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source ... Ox-77UFaVA

Thanks mobilejo for your reply. Just to confirm did you use the plug from the factory amp near where the cd changer goes or did you use the factory sub cable on the other side to get your speaker connection as described on one of the BSW YouTube video?
Also is it best to solder the connections or would a snap crimp be sufficient?
Thanks

My sub is not mounted in the factory sub area, its in an enclosure in the boot area, so I tee'd into the speaker wires as they go into the BM54 module under the floor, I just found the right colours as described in the BSW PDF and used my wire stripper to pull pack the insulation and twisted my wires into the exposed parts.

Crimp locks are good but I never have them when I need them so I just use electricians tape to insulate afterwards. However you do it will be fine, so long as it is done well.
