X5 E53 Front parking sensors part numbers

Post by willos » Fri Mar 22, 2013 11:01 am

Just taken my X5 back to the indy dealer as the engine light was on and the parking sensors not working.
Diagnosed a MAF and front middle sensor faulty.
Of course neither covered by warranty (bit of a pathetic set up but i wont go into that)
As im no stranger to 4X4 servicing and faults (still have my p38 rangie) im replacing both myself as i dont trust anyone to do the job properly without leaving me with a big hole in my pocket.
I have a late 2003 petrol 3.0  , E53 non facelift.  Are the part numbers different for the middle and the side sensors on the front bumber.    Also can i take them out without taking the bumper off as the stick out like a sponge pudding.
Thanks

The outer fronts are the right angle type, the centre 2 on the front, and all the rear 4 are the straight ones. I know on the facelift it's bumper off. Not sure about pre facelift.
I used this seller off eBay.

realoem is your friend for part numbers.

in the pre facelift i believe you can replace the pdcs without the bumper off. if you look in the above diagram the item 10 might be removable without the bumper off.

Corner ones you can replace it without damaging anything but the center ones you might want to have spare pdc covers which are 5er from the dealership and you can pry the old one out and replace it. It takes 5 mins to do so.

Hi Guys
I've just bought an X5 2003 3L sport.
Suddenly realised that the right rear and right front sensors are knackered.
I've easily removed the R rear and got the correct part number & ordered new from ebay £22.
I'm going to take it to a local lad to replace the front right sensor but unsure from the posts which would be appropriate.
Would this be the correct sensor to buy?:

Many thanks for any advice.

Welcome aboard, hope u find the car 'rewarding'.. :)

Presume its a facelift?

That would work if u r looking for a corner pdc. The centre ones are straight, not angled.

Thanks Jaynana,
Feeling rawarded already!
This one will annoy you - I've looked on Wiki but how do I know if I've got a facelift version?
I could supply my VIN if that helps....
Thanks again

Its the diagram mate, in post 3.

Ur post says its a front right. THere are 4 pdcs.

If its right corner its part 12 in the diagram, if its right centre its part 4.

Thanks
Thought so but if in input my VIN on the site it's not so clear.
I will order and keep you updated.
There seems to be debate as to whether or not you need to remove the bumper to replace the front corner sensors on a pre-facelift E53.
Has anyone here done it without removal and if so how easy is it?
Thanks once more.
