Have a bit of a laugh......

My X is at Sytner Sutton Coldfield for an Insp 2 and some warranty stuff. In fact, they have had it since Tuesday, but am not complaining as they have given me a brand new highly specced 520d Mstyled courtesy car which is most enjoyable.

But have a bit of a laugh at this.......

Got their "report" on work needed today.....

1. Wipers need replacing as they are "smearing"  at a cost of £78!!  WHAT?    They are not "smearing" and if they are, giving them a bit of a wipe and a clean will mean they no longer "smear" and I buy about 3 sets of Bosch originals from Halfrauds at that price anyway and change them myself.    So thanks, but I passed on that one.

2. Photochromic mirror glass on wing mirror degraded and cloudy - they say it needs replacing but not covered under warranty as its classed as a "trim",  at a price of £316!!!!    Will check out the "trim" bit as its an integral part of the car, not a "trim" but I told them not to do it if not under warranty. 

3. Rearlight cluster, brake light contacts burnt out, replacing under warranty, thats fine, its expensive to do the whole cluster so thats ok.

4. Split Cv boot and wheel alignment needed apparently, (I didn't even know) but as the X is 8 years old now a split Cv boot is to be expected and wheel alignment is a maintenance thing anyway, but these are apparently being covered by the warranty for some reason!  I am certainly not complaining. 

Insp 2 services are around £450 anyway, so that's enough of a spend for now without £78 wipers and £316 mirror glass! 

Plus I 've had the 520 for 4 days.......and most pleasant they have been, its a superb performer and I love the paddle shifts on the steering wheel

£78 is certainly taking the.......

I'd be surprised at the classification of 'trim' but then as you only have to have one mirror in any of the three positions they could say the interior one is the main one and the other two are add-ons.

wiperbladesdirect or ECP for wipers circa £20-23

Glass secondhand on ebay or via quarry motors...........ask if any damage and if tabs okay and make sure you get right one check realoem for part number

Wow, they do know how to charge  Wipers price is just crazy as for the mirror, I'm lost for words.

Good info as always from AW8, are you getting 6+ service prices plus parts discount?

Yes, its the "special" price for 6+ cars and discount on parts.  The mirror is non urgent, didn't argue about it as they wanted to do a CVboot and wheel alignment on warranty, (I thought these were wear and tear items) just said "no, leave it for now, thanks" and thought I might take this up with BMW afterwards as its crazy stuff and very disingenuous to say that a wing mirror is a "trim" ie a non essential piece of the vehicle only there to make it look nice! 

Not blaming the dealership, as its Mondial who do the extended BMW warranty but I think this should be taken up if I can muster up the energy and find the time to do so!
