Repair manuals (Haynes) are CD ones any good

Post by Ant » Sat May 04, 2013 12:15 pm

Last query/post today, I promise  ::)

I am usless when it comes to little jobs on my cars, but I always have a look and usually with a Haynes manual, I have contacted Haynes and they do not do an E53 X5 repair manual (though they did reply that they would record my interest and review in the future, more than likely for newer cars, but maybe if you all ask they might strip down an E53 for us (Ducks the flying pig) )

I have seen that there is a Bentleys manual, I see they look very big, they may be too advanced for an idiot like me, they are very expensive, and I get the feeling they will be full of Yank terminology.

So how about these manuals on CD, like this:

Not saying this exact one, but this type of thing.

Has anyone bought one ? how do they compare to a Haynes manual (sorry but thats the only reference point I have)

It may only be £6 but I am a tight arse  :P

i have a similar dvd based manual for mine. and to be honest, its a bit basic and nothing like as good as a traditional haynes manual.  :(
but, as there isnt a haynes for the x5, its better than nothing i suppose! to be honest, i never use mine, i just follow the excellent write ups on this forum to help me get jobs done!! :)

Thank you, I agree the forum is great, but I am so ham-fisted I like the diagrams/photos and not all the posts show these...

I am only after easy stuff like changing bulbs etc, nothing major, do the discs show any diagrams at all ?

I bought one a few years back and found there are great chunks missing - like all the torque settings and important parts of the servicing which are in another disc that you don't get.

It is a pain not being able to get a good manual.

I keep trying to get an 'old copy' from my Dealer but with no luck so far.
