Fuel Injection System

Post by Gaff » Wed Jul 17, 2013 6:17 pm

Top team,
Took a run Gatwick this morning, on the run back the Fuel Injection System warning light came on. The X pulled thru all gears fine on way up, but on return journey, the light came on and felt as though acceleration was retarded. I am taking it for a full valet booked tomorrow, can I drive her? I did notice recently white smoke out the back, but only when I put my foot down. Is it Glow plugs? Sorry, no idea (Obvious)
Thanks.

Does the light go out when you turn the ignition off then back on again. It sounds as though its going into limp mode, this is to protect the engine if a fault has occurred, a get me home mode.
You need to try it again to see if the light comes on or has stayed on. Then get the codes read, this should give you a better idea of what the problem is.

So I took it and got it wired in. Error codes weren't showing up, but system said 2,5 and 6 Glow Plugs and then Common rail issues, but was showing as Sporatic. So they reset it, and said to bring it back in should the error return. Driven 10 miles and nothing. No issues starting either.
I think glow plugs are an easy job, but Common rail? I think that's injectors? The more I learn from yous the surer I am someone else can't pull wool over my eyes.
Thanks peops.

Beware of the glow plugs, they seize in and some members have broken them off trying to get them out, when mine go I will be taking it in somewhere ,so if they sheer off that's their problem not mine.
I have never heard of a car going into limp mode because of the glow plugs being iffy. Above 15 degrees they shouldn't even be asked for when starting.
They usually cause excess smoke on cold start up when their gone. Looks like the common rail fault code is causing the limp mode.
Hope the fault reset has sorted it for you.

SO, again this evening after a run from Chessington with the fam the Fuel Ignition System, light came back on. Was cruising, will not say about 90, and the light came back on. I wouldn't describe it as limp mode, but def loss in power. Any hints of what it could be?

Ok. Hoping this helps others, but I was told that the Fuel Filter (Bosch - £23. at EuroCarParts) would be the issue. I hadn't changed it before so i did. Took her for another run this evening and no bells or whistles. Fingers crossed issue solved!
