Door Handle

Post by malc1950 » Fri Nov 15, 2013 5:37 pm

When I just tried to open my driver door from the outside there was a snapping noise when I pulled the handle,
The handle now moves freely up and down but it won't open the door, it still opens ok from the inside , any advice please, Malc  :(

Yes did mine last week - there is a guide by Sanj on this forum. In addition to the guide, note that in addition to clips all round (metal on the upper edge), there is a central key that you have to wiggle the door card upwards from to disengage the card - to refit, you have to recover the black plastic key from the door and slot it into the guide on the door - the card is then a straight push back on. Also, the job is made a bit easier if you unbolt the door keeper/solenoid and lower it carefully down inside the door (its easy to refit). Finally, the carrier has a slot-on end piece which you need to re-use (not supplied with new carrier) put a blob of grease on it to hold it in place on the new carrier when you refit. Still a pig of a job though - good luck!

Flow the guide and it's relatively easy. Parts are about £40 if you don't mind pattern- can't be any worse than OE eh?

106 k and now someone else's problem.
Hi Malc, hope you got the door sorted, we will have to get together next weekend for a Mc Donald's coffee before you hibernate to the Canaries for the winter again, and mothball the X5 for the winter. :)
