I had my 2011 40d broken into on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning whilst it was sitting on my drive. The entire radio/nav unit plus iDrive controller was removed - rather expertly it must be said - from the centre console unit. Kindly (!) the scum concerned left the air vents neatly stacked on the passenger seat and folded back all the wiring that had been disconnected.
The police forensics lady told me the alarm system had been bypassed to gain entry - no forcing of lock and so on - and then aluminium tape placed over the internal motion sensors to negate the vehicle alarm system entirely.
WTF?
Anyone else had anything similar happen? I spoke to BMW customer services but they denied ever having heard of such a problem, even though my local Putney PC said it was the second X5 in a month he'd seen it happen to.

Bl@@dy h3ll!! >:( >:(
Stolen to order without a doubt....same as our E46 front bumper four years ago, and by an expert - most likely a 'bent' BMW Tech according to Beds Police when ours happened.
BMW GB will never admit to anything in case they get found liable. It took them months to cough to the OBD2 port issue even though the Police, Motoring Press, BBC Watchdog and most Dealers knew all about it - and BMW had a fix in production.
Be interesting to know how they go around the alarm system though, unless they did not open a door? The interior sensor do have significant blind spots which has been covered on here before.
Given there are unofficial upgrades now possible, someone obviously did not want to pay! I don't suppose there is any chance it's hard coded to the car VIN and so won't work in another car?
I installed CCTV after ours was done.

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

I'm sorry to hear that.... That must be time consuming and easier to steal the whole car I'd of thought with the punishment being probably the same if caught.
