TV Module

Hi everyone,

I just recently bought a 06 e53 after getting rid of my e46 and just wanted to ask a quick question about the in car TV option...

As you can see in the picture below, I have the option to use the TV.

But when I scan for channels I get nothing, as below.

I have looked in the boot to see if I can find the TV module but I cannot see it in the side wall panel, all I have is an ariel booster, MKIV dvd navigation, CD changer & Bluetooth module.

Is there any other places that the TV module could be hiding?

**UPDATE**

I have found that it may be under the spare wheel & next to the battery, if I was to unplug the module and then plug it back in, would I damage anything?

As long as you disconnect the battery first!!  These modules do not like being disconnected if the power is on the car.  And the TV module is in the area by the battery.

It looks as if the module is working though as it is seeing channels above the base (range is 21 to 68) and your piccie shows channel 35.

You will need to be in a strong signal area.  There are no analogue transmissions any more so that will always stay as '0'.

Am I going to cause any other problems if I disconnect the battery? I need to get a multi meter on it anyway I think as it seems to struggle to start on a morning when its cold.

There is a standard BMW 'reset' used to fix all sorts of issues.  You simply disconnect the battery for about 20 mins (or a bit more does no harm).

If you get a 4x4 warning light on restart then move the steering from lock to lock while moving slowly forwards.

Short journeys, or a battery more than about four years old, could be worth changing.  Don't check the voltage until 4 hours after the engine was last run and with the car awake.  You'll get wrong results.  Easiest way is to open the bonnet, lock and leave the car and then check the battery from the jump points under the bonnet.

I'll just disconnect the negative and leave it a while, is there a battery that you would recommend that would not give me the embarrassment of a struggled start?

Most folks on here seem to go for the Bosch Silver range S4 or S5.  If it's a diesel you need the '019' shape format.  Eurocarparts often do discounts which may save you a few quid.

If your battery is OK after all the checks (12.6 or more volts) and it's fully charged then you may have to begin suspecting a starter motor problem.  Certain starters (Marelli I think) are known to go faulty and draw far more current than the battery can provide.  A few folks on here including me had this happen and ended up with Bosch replacement starters.

I went to my local motor factors and ended up with a "Banner AMG" bit of an impulse buy really lol

The guy hit me with an invoice for  £179.88!!! Lol

I've done some research on the battery and it looks pretty good, but for that price I want it to have my car started & warned up for me before I leave the house lol

What would cause this?

I've been reading and these seem to be a safety terminal? to I have to tap the screwed thread down to release it as it seems to be tapered, I'll make sure that I put the nut on the top end of the thread so I don't damage it.

The standard battery terminal uses a 10mm nut on a side clamp.  That looks like the OEM battery, but I don't remember that top screw on mine.  The corrosion 'fur' is unusual too.  Never had that on any of mine.

There should also be a plastic tube attached to the top of the battery to allow for gases to be vented overboard.  If no tube is present then this is the type of corrosion that happens in the damp air in the battery box.  That terminal needs carefully cleaning (off the vehicle) and treating with Vaseline. 

The 'safety' terminal is on the +ve and will cut the main power line with a small pyrotechnic device and leave the thin red wire connected to power phones etc.

Remember to refit the vent pipe!!  Use a bit of petroleum jelly on the terminals to control any 'fur'.

Cheers Richard! It's all done and the new one is in, cranks over like a dream now.

I've checked the voltage on the old battery and it's saying 12.2v.

TV is also working now! Woo hoo!!



Just need to buy pa-soft not and enable tv in motion. Unless pa-soft will work with the cable I got from bmtechnic.

Excellent.  That battery voltage is about 50% charged.  If it was the original then it had done very well....

Now enjoy the car.  Can't help with TV in Motion as the X6 uses something different for coding.

Banner batteries are very good, by the way, just not as "high street" a brand as Bosch Silvers.
