New Owner of E70 X5

Post by Keithe46 » Wed Mar 05, 2014 1:56 pm

Afternoon folks

Just joined up so thought I would say hello. I had my first X car delivered to at the weekend and loving it so far. It's a 09 30d. Came from a E46 M3 so it's completely different but really like it.

I have a few questions so far. I have a rear tow bar that I will never use, is it easy enough to remove?? Also I have tried to play music from my iPod/iPhone through a aux cable however there is a buzzing sound, does anyone have any suggestions as to why, or how to sort it?

Cheers in advance!!!!!

Welcome, just need to see the photos now.  Is the Towbar not of the removable type?  These are the most common on the X.  If it is a fixed Towbar, I don't think that would be hard to remove, the issue would be if a hole has been made in the bumper.

Congrats and welcome.

Tow bar should be an easy removal job tbh. As for the buzzing, that I suspect would be down to the connection not being quite right. Just to eliminate try a different device using the exact same wire and method. Then try a different wire that way you've discounted the phone/iPod and the cable itself. It's just a process of elimination as you need to work out if it's on the car connection as then you can get BM to look at it under the warranty if it's a dealer car.

So, its not the OEM quick release one then....

3 hours to remove a fixed towbar sounds a bit steep though......id be inclined to get another quote.

If it's a factory one you will also need the car recoded to remove it from the systems.  They aren't plug & play like the E53 version is.  If it's an aftermarket towbar then that may not be an issue.

The standard fit one is a swan neck and the towball just detaches once the key is in the towbar lock.  You just turn a handle.

It might be worth taking a photo of the Towbar from underneath to let us see what type you have fitted.
