Hot start problems leading to cold start issues...

Post by Steamyrotter » Wed Mar 26, 2014 5:40 pm

Well it has been getting progressively worse over the last few weeks..
Wont start easily when warm.. needed 2nd batt to get it going.
Always started ok(ish) on cold start..

Then got to probs on cold start after 3 weeks.

stripped out top of engine and removed injectors for testing (after a bit of an INPA seasion)
transpires that 2 are shot and the other 4 not too bad..
recommended that the 2 are refurbed so will be many pennies lighter tomorrow...

Will let you know if that was the whole problem and solution
If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

Well now have a full set of in spec injectors..
£430 lighter... thats 2 refurbed and other 4 tested and cleaned.

All refitted and now starts like it should...
hot starts pretty much instant.

Cold start slightly suss as i now have 2 glow plugs failed.
wait for another then will look to replacing them me thinks.

gave MAF a blast of carb cleaner and was surprised by the crud that came out of there.
also sprayed the egr valve. might crimp the vac pipe soon and inhibit the thing.
scares me seeing all that gunge going thru the inlet manifold.

Just found out i have the sponge type oil breather so will be changing that on the next service (which incedently is pretty much due now!!)

Will wait to see if consumption improves now..
