No sat nav voice but everything else okay

Post by alz4m » Sun Mar 30, 2014 9:53 pm

Hi there- bit of a newb to X5s but I've done some research and can't find an answer to my problem.

Basically the nav works as does the radio, cd and cassette(!) but I don't get any voice instructions. I've checked that instructions are switched on and turned the volume up as high as it will go but I get absolutely zilch- the music source turns off to allow the instruction to come through but I get nothing other than silence!

I've tried all the menu options and even upgraded the firmware in the hope of it fixing it but no joy... Any ideas?

It's a mk3 nav btw with small screen.

Yes- although it's the original so seems a little beat up but no read issues.  I thought it might be worth actually copying the cd to a new one in case it was the scratched cd causing problems- that said the voice isn't intermittent or stuttering, it just doesn't work!

Thanks

When you change the volume? No. I assume when you change the volume the voice usually says 'louder' / 'quieter' but mine is mute.

The voice control still talks but just no nav directions.

Thanks for your assistance so far chaps.

Your correct, when you change it in settings it normally says: "Quieter" & "Louder".

Thanks. It seems like my head unit doesn't have an info button- I'm pretty familiar with bmws so I can only assume something is disconnected/broken but if that's my only real problem (other than my dodgy passenger mirror) then I'm pretty content!

Found this from another site regards to same problem you're having;

"Before I had a chance to re-visit the forum I had one more quick 'play' with it to see if I could fix it.  I tuned into a MW radio station then started pressing the buttons, when I pressed 'Info' the 'I' vanished off the screen and the sound came back to life! "

Thanks for all the pointers- unfortunately none seem to work!!

I've checked all the wiring and actually changed the sat nav to a widescreen unit today but still no voice directions. However, I have a theory- my car is equipped with a long defunct Traffic Master unit and when activated it has a Red Cross on the screen over a red box and I think that might be the problem but I can't see how to click on that box... Any ideas?

I think that it's the mute for the tm and it's also muting the directions but using the single rotary control for the tm I can't find any options re un muting it.
