E70 3.0D cutting out

Oh and don't disconnect the battery and close the boot as it wont open again , had to crawl in through back seats and the full width boot board is almost impossible to get an arm around to the post :poke:

E70 3.0D cutting out

Got this back together today (injector 5 replaced ) after waiting for the bush for the manifold to arrive , the top one arrived quickly but the red rubber one took ages. Done 20 miles tonight and seems ok though only a matter of time till no 6 fails i guess as its out of resistance spec . I also pulled of the wing and swapped out the rear washer pump and now it works and the tank doesn't drain over the street any more . of course the 2 captive nuts in the wing were rotten and the squire clip siezed to it and spun round and damaged the mount :headbang: New squire clips on but one of the bolts that screw into the tank down the door pillar is a complete nightmare to get aligned and started. One of my headlamp washer rams sticks out and I tried to push it in /out and pulled the jet off :headbang: It has clipped back in but they don't seem very secure
While I had the gearbox cover off I noticed the transfer box steel cradle is bloody rotten too so it needs replaced for mot  oh and the tail light in the boot led is bust a while and of course you can only sort that with a new light :headbang: :fuelfire: Old cars are a pain although this is the newest car I own

also when i was putting it up on car ramps I have little assistor ramps for low cars that attach to the first rung of the ramp I used these to stop the ramps sliding forwards as the concrete was sloping downhill but guess what they are not rated for nose heavy x5 it seems as one bent like a banana as soon as the front wheel got on it

E70 3.0D cutting out

A test of resilience  Still as one of my sons said " that car is keeping you fit and bendy" not sure myself some days I walk like C3PO
But in my opinion compared to the E53's the E70 is a step backwards in accessibility for just about everything and every part.
At least your up and running and changing out No6 will be so much faster now you have practised

Got the rear Rose bush's to do soon (starting to creak) and like you there seems to be a lot more rust under an E70 than the E53 4.6is. Or as a comparison my wife's Subaru Outback 3.0 2004 vintage and now with 145k on the clock has required nothing but tyres and brakes serviced annually before MOT (by me) Suspension bushes were changed to PTFE in 2005 when I fitted a full Perrin engine upgrade. It isn't driven hard but it has been faultless it's last MOT 1 advisory track rod rubber bushes cracking

BMW it seems lost something in the late 2000's

Im sure I will be faster the next time , i have a sofa cushion I put on the front brace befind the front panel and surf the engine to get to the back bolts now but as we know you drop anything its gone forever into the abiyss..There is a cable held to the back of the manifold with a male torx that must be removed but you can only feel for it plus the manifold will only come up so far unless you unplug the rail pressure sensor which is probaly how the rear bush was knocked loose .
I think the corrosion has a lot to do wirh mileage too im at 174k now plus I live near a river so salt is always there .my 330d was rotten to hell by 200k falling to bits as well.
The Subaru is hilding up well caring ownership no doubt played a part  ,
That transfer box brace is folded on the tube and sealer uaed to cover the gaps insead of a closed section , its guaranteed to fail once the sealer starts lifting.
Struggled to get out of bed today I really dunno how mechanics do it day in day out , but iI kniow why mine is so stressed all the time working on mainly older cars where everything is siezed ,breaks off or snaps and then delays the job untill more bits are sourced which can take ages.It aint so easy like the haynes said it would be
I reset injectors adaptions kast night , 5 replaced is now at -1.85 and 6 is in the danger zone at +3.2 , it was zero before 5 was replaced I think [max is 4] so I may now get much use out of it after all.
My sos alarm on startup is now permanent it seems which is annoying :fuelfire:
