GPS cable

Post by cameronrobyn » Sat Aug 23, 2014 8:17 pm

On my Hauligan The GPS cable is loose around the connector.  Can I cut it off and re feed it back in to the connector.  Don't want to do this and find the whole thing is integral and need a whole new wire.

Hope that makes sense.

It is similar to this gold connector!Image

It looks to be a standard SMA type coaxial connector - Unless it's the same size as a satellite TV receiver connector in which case it is an 'F' type.  I think it's an SMA from the size in the image and that it's threaded.

As supplied it will probably be crimped to the end so you will need a new SMA/'F' male connector and be able to crimp it on.

You need to check the coax type.  I think it's RG178 (or equivalent) which is 2.8mm in diameter.

Best thing is probably to take it to somewhere like Maplin, or even better a local RS Components counter, or if you have one locally an amateur radio shop and show them.  They'll confirm whether SMA/F and might even fit it for you.  :). If none locally them you can get the connector and tool from Amazon, RS Components (pricy) or Farnell.

When I put the Hualigan in the 4.4 I brought an SMB to SMA adapter and a SMA extension for the GPS and used the cars own antenna.
I have used the same type of adapters SMB to F to use the cars internal antennas for my digital TV in the 4.6

Greydog, did you ever upgrade the software or change the home screen on the Hauligan.  It's took some time to get used to but I'm happy with it.

No is the answer, like you I was just starting to find my way around it when a ruddy great Cedar Tree blew over and squashed the car flat. I brought the Hualigan as there were several problems with the OEM system CD intermittent BM54 sound MK3 Nav and no bluetooth the cost of uprading the OEM system was far more than the Hualigan.
As I didn't use the Hualigan GPS antenna I will dig in the garage and find it if you want?
