E53 3.0d Manual jerking.

Post by poppythedog » Tue Sep 23, 2014 11:32 pm

Hi all.

I have an E53 3.0d sport, Manual gearbox and the car has been jerking for some time, especially under hard acceleration or going up hill. The jerking is getting worse, and it's been doing it now for a few thousand miles.

There is no engine management light on and I have run loads of different types of injector cleaner through the fuel system but no joy. I obviously suspect the injectors, but the jerking is so sporadic that i'm not sure. It may jerk four or five times in 5 seconds and then not jerk again for another 10 seconds (if you can see what I'm Saying) the jerking is not uniform like you would expect from one cylinder not firing.

Fuel and air filters have been changed recently. Is there anything else I can check before i go down the route of changing injectors??

Could it be a blockage in the EGR system or maybe an air leak on the intake? I'm not sure where to start if i'm honest. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is sensible to have breather checked  as any muck won't help the car.  In absence of a diagnostic check it's trial and error - the cost of trial and error part  being replaced can be costly on these so do consider a visit to an Indy.  Diagnostic kit doesn't always give accurate picture as sometimes faults need some interpretation and some working back can be required to properly diagnose.

There are places that wil test your injectors.
Any bosch injector centre should do it and at a much lower cost than straight replacement.
I had mine checked at £20 / injector and needed 2 to be refurbed.
Total cost was £420 for 6. (4 test only and 2 refurb)

It could be the injector loom as these are not infallable

You will defo need to get codes read first ass that may (or may not) help
If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)
