Gearbox "recondition" what do I need to Know?

Seen a 2003 4.6 advertised with an allegedly reconditioned box. So apart from asking:
1. Where and when was it done?
2. Is there a warranty?

What else do I need to know? What exactly should have been done during this "reconditioning"? Are there some parts that can be changed to clear the clonk and then other bits left to fail soon after?

Apart from seeing an invoice, and hopefully a warranty is still in place, then the only thing you can really do is test drive it and see.
Drive in normal conditions, then make sure it kicks down smoothly, changes all gears smoothly, and most importantly there's no thuds or clonks, ( for want of a better word ), when you're slowing down and coming to a halt.
Don't just go around the block, as faults with the boxes can be ironed out temporarily with a gearbox reset, so don't show up straight away.

Based upon my failure in the torque converter my gearbox (ZF 6-speed) had the following done...

New Torque converter
New Oil Pump
Major Overhaul kit - all new brake and clutch packs
New Mechatronics Unit
New filters
All new gaskets and fluids.

6 month post rebuild check & fluid change, 12 month warranty.

I would expect a decent overhaul to at least have new clutch & brake pack linings, new filter, refurbed torque converter.  Plus new gaskets, fluids etc.

AAA Gearboxes in Nottingham did mine before I bought the car and to keep it in the 1 year warranty they said the oil had to be changed within 1 month of installation, and then after 6 months by either themselves or a reputable transmission specialist.

Seller didn't seem to be too interested in going into detail so I'll give it a swerve I think, it's on eBay for 4995 with 90k so I didn't think it was too far over price wise but I've been watching it since jan!

I always say you have to buy the seller as well as the car, ( if you get what I mean ).
And I tend to just skip ads that show a dirty car, if they can't be bothered cleaning it when they're trying to sell it, what's the state of it normally.

A1 Premier Transmissions, Biggleswade.  Warranty Direct paid.  Gearbox was £2200 some 6 or so years ago, and the Mech Unit was another £1500.  The Mech Unit was changed under the rebuild warranty because the gear overlap timings were well out after the refurb as a second fault due to debris was caused by the initial failure so WD agreed to pay for that too.
