Ciggy lighter power supply wiring route ??

Post by X5-D-Sport » Wed Apr 08, 2015 1:39 pm

I want to tap some power off the fag lighter to power up my Sat-Nav unit,
and sick of having the centre console flap open,

So was wondering if there is an easy access for this via left or right front footwell...

Richard mentioned this in a link yesterday, bit I cannot find the link thread now...

Any one know an access panel easy to remove to access this power feed, so I can go straight top it without stripping out half the vehicle 1st....

Regards

Are you looking for permanent power, or switched?

On my E53 I dropped the glovebox and then the fusebox and worked along the connections until I found a usable live feed of the type I needed and then tapped into it.

You can get permanent power off the back of the point where the torch charges - what torch? - there should be one on the RHS of the glovebox.  Most will have vanished by now I expect, but the connections should be visible, two female sockets (+12V & -ve).  I soldered into the +ve for powering my safety camera detector.
:ant: Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Found the Torch connector,

That was a real bugger getting it out from behind.... Grrrrrrr

Any way, power to a 4 way adapter now for other devices too, and no trailing wires from the centre console too... yippeeee.

I got a traffic/collision camera arriving from China in about a week, having seen a couple of Cash Crashes in Luton where I was working recently... 1080 resolution 5 meg, so should be OK... & impact sensing to store 20 secs before & after the impact also... we will see !
May get another to fit into the back window also...

Thanks for the info Richard... and YES the torch was GONE..
