Gearbox oil

Decided to carry out an oil change on the X5s gearbox this week. I got the filter from BMW but they wanted around £120 for 5l of ZF longlife 6 and because I'm tight I had a look round the net but struggled to find it anywhere at a reasonable price. One last attempt I tried the Land Rover centre in Speke (LRparts.net) as the discovery uses the same box, £69.00 jackpot! Just a heads up for anyone else who's as tight as me...

If its genuine zf, good price. 5L is not enough for pasive oil change never mind dynamic ...To do it the way it should be done you need 11L...

I just did the partial change that ZF recommend, draining the sump and replacing the filter. I measured the oil I removed (around 4.5l) but that didn't include the bits I spilt and what was in the filter. I put back in just over 4.5l following ZF refiling guide.

The oil was ZF longlife 6, in genuine sealed  bottles.

Check the level again, round 6-7L for static, 11-12L for dynamic..

Was starting to panic a bit with the oil level. I checked with the ZF video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRrgmfM8VlQ and they say the box will take between 4-6l for the  ZF6HP26 I measured 4.5l ish that I took out and put just under 5 back in. The box had no leaks so I'm happy now...
