Well wheel refurb now done

Well after deciding to refurb my wheels due to staining caused by mild acids used by a lot of the hand car wash places I was unsure to go standard silver or high gloss black and well I went with a change so went with gloss black.

Here's a few pics:

How it started out stock style 87 IS wheels

First had to whip all the wheels off so found a place out the way to leave it:

Then first thing was to pop the front bead back so I have access to the whole rim and to make masking up easier:

Next was to clean up the curb rash and to fill the worst of it before keying them up and priming.

And this evening straight after work the booth was free so I jumped in and got to it:

Masked up, primed and cleaned ready for paint:

Black base coat laid down:

followed by the best bit clear coat:

once the clear coat had been laid down I set the booth to bake at 60 degrees for 30 mins and left them in the booth to fully harden over night and I'll be in work tomorrow morning at 6am to finish them off with the brand new centre caps that arrived from BMW today and whack them back on the car and take some final pictures.....

Nice job, but intrigued ........why didn't you take the whole tyre off each and do 'em properly after going to all that trouble?

Because unless I wanted to wait a good week for the paint to harden enough to put the tyre back on it would kill the paint around the edges where the tyre is forced against the edge.

They actually say a fresh paint job takes up to 90 days to reach full hardness which is why your not supposed to wax fresh paint for 3 months as it seals it and messes up the curing

Was thinking of going black but now that I've seen them on, I'm thinking nah!

Maybe a grey shadow?

Thanks guys.

I'm thinking about painting the black plastic trim (arches, sills and bumper lowers) gloss black too as I like the they sit against the colour and I'm not a fan of painting them body colour.

I'll then fit the IS bumper spoilers obviously body coloured

Then I suggest you don't paint yours.

I love them something different to the norm.

The pictures really don't do them justice as they really pop in the sun almost like chrome in the way they reflect.

I Think grey on grey would not look good IMO, on any other colour they would like ok.
