As title really
Mileage 141k - Last pair swapped out circa 70k and lasted circa
70k
Cost at Indy £216.22 of which labour was reasonable -just 2 hrs total for both sides...60 mins each @£60 p/hr plus vat. Parts £30.09 each plus vat - granted not a bargain but OE.
Spotted early fortunately -only one split but caused both to be replaced.
Glad done ahead of winter - Indy spot on booked me in short notice (AJ Robertson)

70k a set isn't bad when you consider what they go through.
Glad it was caught early meaning the CVJs were saved.

Re: Front outer CV boots changed....now on 3rd set since new
All the rubber bits under an X5 seem to last 70 - 80k !! Must have stretched their engineers getting the density/elasticity specification just right? Whats the warranty period ???
As a comparison my wife's 05 3.0 Subaru Outback 140k all original all OK, son's Toyota pickup truck (totally abused he's a Forester/tree surgeon) 130k all original. His previous pick up needed shock absorbers but no CV boots or bushes.
Having said that I have re-bushed the X and while its an irritation I have accepted it as a necessary maintenance item for this car and I will have sold/traded it before it needs doing again.

Hmm - when there is better durability in other cars it does make one wonder somewhat.
