E53 D brake fluid change ?

Post by chelsea » Wed Oct 28, 2015 5:31 pm

Good evening all !

As I'm servicing mine this saturday and If I have time then I may change the brake fluid? Is it just a matter of bleeding old fluid thru until new appears or is it more involved on these?
cheers,
Paul.

Providing you do not allow any air into the system you'll be fine.  I used an Easi-Bleed on mine via a spare wheel reduced to 18-20psi - to prevent any damage to the system.  If you use a pressure system you MUST use no more than 20psi.

If you do get air in there then you need software to cycle all of the ABS modulator valves, and you will have brake problems until sorted.

BMW use a low vacuum to 'pull' fluid through.

I've done it with the pressure system a couple of time now and not had any trouble.  Just keep the reservoir full and you'll be fine  :)
