I fitted the EGR AND blanked + removed the pipe from the manifold...

The MOT inspector isn't interested in what's fitted, simply what the emissions pump out

Ahhhh, I see...
Well, put it this way, my X5 diesel has done over 150,000 miles (EGR removed) & the emissions were cleaner than the ambient air, as I was informed by my MOT inspector.

He reckoned that If I had a suicide wish,
that
I would probably die of old age before Exhaust poisoning with a pipe from the exhaust into the vehicle  :)) ::) 8)

The EGR removal makes such a tinsy difference it is barely worth comprehension.
A good oil & filter change & a dose of injector cleaner will do far more than an EGR ever will.

Provided your Oil / Injectors / Engine are in good order, the EGR removal will not effect your MOT viability at all - ever.

The difference will be only just noticeable, and you will get a tad more MPG most likely too.
I left the shield in situ as I did mine between rain showers & had to hurry lol...

It's amazing how much junk you can chuck out from under a bonnet  !!
