My apologies but a Newbie question again!
This time its about tyres, not winter wheels etc, but tyres. If I was to order new tyres from the likes of (Camskill, etc)how do I go about getting them fitted to my wheels? Do I just go to  my local fitting centre? (How much is the usual charge? Will they not be a little p!$$ed I didn't buy the tyres off them?)

I have never used an online service like this but I believe for instance Black Circles already have a network of fitting centres that will sort you out.

I am trying to build up a reputable list of people/companies that I will allow to dare touch my precious cargo.  :))

I have bought tyres from Camskill and Oponeo via the inernet had them delivered to my house. I have then taken them to my local tyre place and they have fitted them - about £10 each for 16" wheels and £15 each for 20" wheels. Never had a problem with tyre places fitting tyres that have been bought elsewhere. Some online places will deliver the tyres to a tyre place and you just go there and have them fitted (I think Tyreleader and Black Circles do this).

I've ordered tyres from TYREMAN of the Internet and had them delivered to my local tyre shop. They then charged me £10 a corner to fit and balance.

I used Oponeo a couple of weeks ago for my front tyres (and I've used them several times before, because they're very good on price). They're a good company too. The tyres were manufactured in Dec 2015, so they're not selling old stock. My local tyre place fitted them for £15 a wheel.

This has prompted my local, trusted tyre dealer to make me a really competitive quote for matching rear tyres. That's the way to do it!

Thank you all for your comments, can I press you again and ask about run flats?
Do I need them? I have a full size spare in the boot & am an RAC Member.
How true is it that not having run flats shreds the transmission? I dont fancy a massive bill just for changing the tyres.

Personally no, but that's my view. The cost of run flats have come down in the past few years but they are still overpriced for what they are. As long as you are putting decent tyres on and the correct sizes (not sure about your x5 but my rear tyres are wider than the fronts) you won't damage the transmission. What ever u do don't put budget rubber on, the x5 will tear em to pieces.

Yes,I would be putting decent rubber on, Budget would just let it all down.  ::)

Talking of tyres.. Im looking for some fronts for mine. The local garage can get some Prestivo tyres fitted for £135. I have never heard of them. He had them on his Jaguar and recons they are ok. I can also get a pair of Kumhos for £140 fitted. They are part worn but still have nearly 7mm of tread on. Im more tempted by the Kumhos if im honest as they are a better tyre. I dont do too many miles- certainly not shredding up and down the motorway all the time.
The Prestivos have exactly the same tread as what is on my X5 at the moment but they are Nexen Rodians. Strange..

I am running with Bridgestone (can't remember the exact model), brand new think it was £140 ish for the fronts each and about 10-20 quid more per side for the rears. I am sure I had Kuhmos on there before but they were very soft and only lasted for 8k miles

Sorry Guys, I feel an absolute moron! An utter fool!......but I will learn!!!
After all the talking of run flat and the like, I decided to check what my X5 is actually sitting on....
I am now that little bit wiser in the fact that I now know my car will run fine without runflats as they are on 'Nankang'.
Who they are I don't know......yet!
Are they any good?...........not too bad, but they will be changed if this changes!
I will get her on a 4 wheel asap and work from there, but I'll continue to run as normal until September/October where they will be changed over for 18" Winters, where I will have time to switch Nankang for....? (Dunlop/Pirelli/Continental's?) what does everyone recommend?.

My bridgestones are great but I haven't had them on for long so can't comment on wear yet, sorry. Don't worry we have all made mistakes and everyday is a learning day!

It's not been said here so far, but the E53 was never offered with run flats! Those evils only arrived with later models.  You can fit anything you like as long as you stay away from the more 'agricultural/off-road/mud plugger types of tread as that is what causes the most problems......along with wide tread depth variations.

Nankang might be Oriental for 'Ditchfinder'.  Very budget, and IMHO very nasty.  Not the sort of rubber I would use on 2-tonnes of expensive car as I would not know if they really were any good until I needed them in anger......and it's a bit late then  :(

As has been suggested elsewhere, change as a set of four and stick with the right sizes rather than trying to make undersized/oversize fit the wheels and you won't go wrong.
