Fitting standard tyres
Fitting standard tyres
Hi, I've got 20" rims with the usual run flats (275 front 315 rear) on my 62 plate 4.0d and was considering changing to standard tyres to save money and improve the ride. What size space saver would I need to carry? Any one used this solution? Many thanks

Re: Fitting standard tyres
You've posted this in the E53 section, but you have an E70.
Read the number of threads about non-OEM tyres, and especially if you have a BMW warranty. There are some indications that using a wrong mix of tyres can break front/rear diffs. Any '*' marked tyre is fine.
BMW supply a specific space save kit for 5-seater variant (cannot be stored in the 7-seat).
Have a look at Realoem (BMW Parts database) and use the last 7 of your VIN to get the right car type. That will aim you at the correct bits which you can buy on line cheaper than a dealer.

Hi quite a lot that run on 20" go down to 19" which improves the ride and the tyres are cheaper !
The difference on none runflat can make it a bit spongy in corners as the runflats have a harder sidewall . This causes a bit of disappointment , by the time you buy a spare wheel costs will be similar .
I stuck with runflats on both BMWs due to the fact if the wife gets a puncture she can drive home safely as there is no way she would be able to change a wheel .
As X5sport says if you do change to none run flats stick to branded tyres as recommended by BMW , the others are usually known as ditch finders !
