Time to say goodbye to the 4.6

Post by IanP » Fri Dec 30, 2016 6:44 pm

After 7 years it's time to move on from the 4.6is  :(  :(. It's been a bumpy ride at times including a full engine rebuild after tensioner failure and a bodged repair by a so called expert. However it's done 50000 milrs since I did the engine myself and the noise and acceleration still make me smile.
To cheer myself up I have bought a 2012 X6M so the X experience continues  O:-) 24000 miles so the tensioners should have some life in them yet I hope  :o :o

Hi

That sounds like a good replacement and if the 4.6 made you smile the X6m will bring a big grin to your face I'm sure  :))

Look forward to the pics

Picked the X6M up today and drove it back to the NE from S Wales. Nice drive and 24 mpg at 70+ mph which is very acceptable. Manual shifting in sport mode is how shall we say. 'Interesting'  >:D >:D First car I have driven that tries to adjust the headlights as the acceleration has made it squat so much.

Hi

Congrats on the new car, and I did say it would put a big grin on your face,

Given the price of a new one, the secondhand ones are a bargain especially if your doing low miles.

I found mine is actually better on fuel than the old E53 4.4 V8 I had, which surprised me  :))

Well that's it, the end of 7 1/2 years in my 4.6. Bought by a BMW breaker in Birmingham  :sad1: :sad1:

Yes it was on autotrader, guess it was priced a bit low as I had numerous calls about it. Including from Lithuania 8) 8) 8) 8)

I did see it and thought it was cheap.

There is a breakers in Lithuania that sell parts on ebay!

Often thought about breaking past cars but it is having the time and space for it.

Well on wards and upwards, hope your settled into the X.
