Poor Service yet again............

Post by Nat » Mon Feb 06, 2017 9:52 am

Hi,

Is it me ? I have owned many BMW's spanning almost 2 decades.
You probably won't believe me , but I have yet to find a main dealer that does what it says on the tin.
I am sick and tired of the inconvenience and not only having to take the car to the dealer at least twice to get things fixed but also having to argue with them. So much so that I am considering leaving BMW for good and getting into another make which has decent customer service, Like Lexus. BMW = good product but absolute shite after sales/servicing = overall poor ownership experience.

So last week the X5 went for an oil service. WE also told them the o/s rear fog light had water in it again. It had been done before.  The car is under extended warranty.
They said they couldn't do it in 1 day  , so they kept it overnight and effectively had it for 2 full days. The point being they had loads of time to do the job right .

The car came back ............The rear fog light still has condensation in it so clearly they didn't dry it out.
I also now have fog light failure " bong " on the dash every time I starts the car. Of course the reas o/s fog light does not work now. It was working when you took the car in.

They didn't fill in the service book correctly............nor last time. It was embarrassing the number of times my wife asked them to correct this. Did they do it ? did they fk.....

So what are the chances the rest of the work was done properly? You are incapable of swapping a fog light or filling in a service book so I am guessing No chance.

WTF is wrong with all these dealers and why is it so difficult to get anything done right the first time ?

Discuss..............!

Totally agree! I was with one dealer for over 20 years, things changed and I was not happy. I moved to another dealer, same, yet another and now on my fifth BMW dealer. Poor service like saying they had done service items when clearly they had not, completing a brake fluid change only to drive out of the yard and the light came on returned - and they said they forgot to change the fluid!
Another car purchased only to do 21 miles and the battery was flat they had it back, tested it and they said it was OK. The battery failed 14 times in the next six weeks!

The service level of BMW is very poor, the cars are good, but you are right they could learn a lot from Lexus.

In all my time wiith BMW I have never received flowers or any thing, my wife had champagne with Audi, flowerers with Ford etc. Has anyone ever received anything with BMW?

I must admit when we recently took delivery of our new X6 I was rather surprised that there were no flowers for MrsP. OK, it's no big deal, but it's normally a nice touch. This was our first BMW. In the past, we've had flowers plus branded umbrella and pens (Jaguar), flowers and fancy branded wine stoppers (Merc). Oh, and splendid flowers for a Fiesta. I thought it a bit odd that there was nothing from BMW, especially after we'd just spent £60k-ish.
And Nat - you don't have much luck with customer service, do you!

Cheers,
MarkP

I completely agree.  Fortunately I have a slight advantage of being a Mechanical & Electronics Engineer so .I find the only was to get things done is to talk things through from 1st Principles with the Dealer Master Tech.

BMW (and others I find) Technicians simply do not understand the tech they have to work with and rely on what the computer says.  Software is not the answer!  Unless you fit thousands of sensors the fault log simply will not detect everything.  It doesn't help that the manufacturers insist on 'replace not repair' too so no one learns.  OK repairing some of the kit is a highly specialised job in itself, but at least give the workshop team a realistic chance of fault finding properly.

Swapping units until something gets fixed, and charging the customer even if it is wrong just goes against everything I have been taught, and learned, as an Engineer over the last 40 years!  Maketh I seethe......
:ant: Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Never been to a BMW dealer and been impressed by their service.

Trying to get them to sort vibrations is the most fun. "It's the road surface" or "characteristic". Took 3 BMW dealers and 3 months to get an M3 gearbox replaced under warranty. Only took so long because I simply didn't have time to keep taking a 'master technician' out for a drive. I'm an engineer so have a good idea of when something is wrong and can explain it to them- feel sorry for people who can't and have to battle or wait until it breaks down.

"Been for a 15 mile test drive and all sorted" I get back in the car, drive down the road, problem still there.

Muppets. Seriously putting me off buying a newer BMW again. Give me a e30-46 which you can fix with a spanner and not by a spanner errrr, sorry, I mean bmw mechanic.
