Hi all x5 drivers
I recently had turbo failure on my x5 diesel e53, garage removed old turbo but broke 1 injector on removing rocker cover they have replaced turbo and put another injector in. They can not get car going and now ive got vehicle stuck outside my house not running, car will turn over but does not fire. Have put a snapon scanner on and its now coming up with low fuel pressure on startup its like the pump has been immobilised any help would be much appreciated
cheers alan

Re: turbo failure
Was the injector a new one, if the injector is passing/ leaking maybe it can't maintain common rail fuel pressure.
There is a pressure sensor on the rail, have they re connected it properly ? Did you drive it home after the repair, or has it not been driven since,as you say it's outside your house ? Could it be Air locked,

Re: turbo failure
Hi
injector wasent new but had it tested by local injector repair centre all ok, checked the plug on the sensor and thats fitted properly. Car was brought home on a recovery truck, it has not started since turbo failed i did get a new battery and fit it while car was at garage. Ive heard that the car may have shut diesel pump down to stop damage how true i dont know.I have diesel at all injectors when feed pipes removed

Re: turbo failure
Did they plug all of the injector harness back in, along with the other plugs.
You may have air in the system too and that will prevent pressure building. I think that it can be bled where the fuel line comes up to the rail. Someone else in the Forum had this a couple of days back.
If they have broken the car then they fix it!

Re: turbo failure
Hi
Since ive had car at home ive checked all the injector harness plugs and just about everything else i can check, i havent found a bled valve on injector line anywhere. i get what your saying about the garage fixing it but they had car for about a week and the bill was enough. They had tried everything and it just wont start and only being a small garage they had other work booked in, so i decided to have it recovered home

Re: turbo failure
I don't know much about the X5 diesel but are the injectors coded into the car?

Re: turbo failure
Small garage or not, it went in for known work and they broke it.
I had an Indy work in my E46 (3-series) just once and they broke it. They fixed it at their own expense and it was expensive. The suspicion was a mechanic put the battery on backwards - that is all it went in for - and half the entertainment system, convertible roof, seat controls and a few other bits were damaged along with 30A fuses blown. Their bill was thousands and it had to go to a main Dealer to put it right.
These cars need to be worked by people who know them and have the right tools/knowledge.
It is for them to sort it - no ifs or buts. The only fuel pump inhibit I have heard of is activated in the event of air bags being triggered.
Probably worth having a good look at the fuse boards (above glovebox and right rear cubby) in case one has blown. There is a fuel pump relay above the front board too.

We used to loosen a pipe fitting at one of the injectors and turn it over air then fuel used to come out, then once good fuel is there tighten up the pipe fitting, if there is no fuel then it could be a low pressure or high pressure pump has gone. Maybe the filter is blocked but unlikely, look at real OEM at the fuel system diagram and work through it ,
Make sure the fuel tank is venting and not pulling a vacuum ( remove the cap ) put 10 lots of fuel in as a precaution. Ect etc.
