So thought I'd check for any pressure by removing the oil filler cap whilst at idle, cold engine, been running 2 or 3 mins.
There was a significant clacking

Hopefully it picked up the sound, is this normal?
If not, what could be wrong?

Re: Noise when removing oil filler cap...
Its quite a 'liquid' sound. I would say it was just engine parts moving in oil. If it is not apparent with the cap on I would say its normal. Can you not find someone with a similar engine and listen to theirs?
Re: Noise when removing oil filler cap...
Wish I could, don't know anyone with same or similar car lol, was hoping some kind folks here would pull cap and see if they had same metallic sound.

Hi Upex...
Fear NOT good man.... that is the excellent & reassuring noise of plenty of oil sloshing/Spatting between the cam lobes & the shim plate.... if it was a metallic dry clatter, then you got problems.
i'd say that engine sounds as sweet as it can get... The sound when the cap is off is Perfect... as is the smooth purrr of the 6 cylinders....
You have a good one there.
