Hi all,
Driving the x5 the other day and radio shuts off, ie no sound and starts making a very loud beep (properly made me jump) randomly, ie gap between beeps varies. The 3 lights are flashing and it shows Bluetooth pairing on screen. Return to radio and nothing, cd doesnt play either, but Sat nav working still.
Turned off and let sit for hours, all back to normal.
Days later, same thing happened. Had more driving ahead, so pulled over, turned off and back on (no wait) didn't help. Pulled fuse 7 (radio, computer, sat nav and phone etc). Fuse in, everything back to normal for rest of drive.
Got back from hols (1 week later) and still working, but half way home, the beep was back, lights flashing and no audio. Stopped, pulled fuse but the Sat nav was still showing on screen, hmmmm, surely screen should be off completely? This didn't fix it this time. Audio didn't return but the 3 lights and beeping stopped.
Any clues as to where to start, having no audio is a killer.
We've never even tried to pair a phone since owning her and I've not fiddled with anything for months, so appears to have occurred on its own. We do have an error code of Bluetooth button stuck, but this has been on the car since we've owned it (don't even know what or where the Bluetooth button is).
Thanks, Upex

Re: Random radio issues, and very very loud beeping
Have a look under the boot floor for water ingress, same on the rack with the Mk4 Nav Comp. Could be a loose connector or corroded pin on any of the modules at front or rear, or a failed amp/telephone module. Worth a good look, or at least that's where I would start.

Re: Random radio issues, and very very loud beeping
Thanks x5sport, yet to dig in and have a look, but when you say rack, what do you mean?
Also, what modules are at front anhere? Thought all were in boot.
Lastly, any ideas what the Bluetooth button is and where it is? Only thing I can find looks like voice command button in front of phone in armrest, ljke a head with voice marks or something like that.

Re: Random radio issues, and very very loud beeping
It holds the CD drive, Nav computer, Bluetooth. Left side boot cubby behind the cover.

Re: Random radio issues, and very very loud beeping
Know where you mean, but is that what you mean when say check the rack, or is that where the Bluetooth button is? Not sure which bit you've mentioned that I'm looking for in that left cubby.
Will check boot floor and it's modules, that cubby and it's modules, both for water ingress, poor connections etc. Anything else I need to check in the cubby?
Not sure where modules are at the front, and not sure where the Bluetooth button is though.
Cheers
