Webasto not working combustion air fan and circulation pump

Post by Hairdye » Fri Dec 29, 2017 6:35 pm

Hi
I started this thread under a different heading originally but I now need help with the webasto if possible please.
There is no signs of life when I unlock the car (which it used to hum)
I have tried running a live wire to the number 1 pin and nothing happens.
The mechanic in our street has run his diagnostic machine and it came up with the following,
AC heater
32 additional heater
Then when he clicked on that it stated
STH Parking heater
02 combustion air fan
03 circulation pump

If these two items were faulty would that stop the webasto making any noise at all ?
Is there a separate way of testing these items ?
Really need your help if possible guys, I've had the car 2 years and never knew about the webasto but now I do I'm one of those people that can't cope with errors or things not working.
Any help would really be appreciated
Thanks

Hi there

First off real. I, like you don't like things not working, but the Webasto in no way impacts the running of the car so you can take your time to fix it.

Secondly, Im no expert and cannot help you fix it as such, but as both items mentioned, (pump and fan) are moving parts, then I'd say yes absolutely if they aren't working then the unit is likely to say silent.

Have you read all the posts on here regarding Webasto units - there is lots of information that has been posted over the years. And you're less likely to get loads of responses over the christmas breaks - folks are busy with families etc, so take the time to read all the posts, and consider sending a pm to those who have posted to see if they can help you. One guy had a webasto in the buy and sell section and stated, as far as I recall, that the fan was working - message him and ask him how he tested it

Good luck

Smee

Thanks for the reply mate. I have scoured the internet for as much info as I can regarding this issue but there are so many different responses I'm struggling to make sense of it all. One user stated the pcb boards go bad so that was another of my could it be the pcb that stopped my two items working. I'll have another search on here for the bloke you mentioned and see what I can find.
Many thanks

Yes mate think I've read that much I can't understand what to do next. I just don't want to buy the water pump and air fan and it still wont work. If I knew it was justthese two items would stop the webasto starting or making any noise at all i would feel better lol

Well bud...It seems that adding 12v to pin 1 fires it up regardless.

If it don't then it sounds like the unit is buggered.

I'll try the 12v wire to pin 1 on mine and see what happens and get back to you this morning.

If it fires up on mine, it should do it on yours

Hello there. I'm new to this forum. Just got our first bimmer, E53 3.0d, a month ago. Since it's pretty cold in Finland at this time of the year, I started seeking information on installing T91 to the car. This thread proved to be one of the most useful ones. So I went ahead and installed the T91 and documented the whole thing to help the others too.

I hope this helps someone out there.

Seems as well as getting it "switched on" using BMWScanner 1.4.0......you need a plug in module, a Telestart, which you can get off fleabay.

Then follow the instructions in this installation guide for grannies !!!!

i'll try pin 1 12v trick in the morning

....oh and as well as the Telestart you need a remote fob

I would have thought though that you would be able to switch a timer on to activate it like you can auxilliary ventillation...

Tha plot thickens    :o

Right Bud....I put 12v onto pin 1 of the multiplug and it fired up straight away.

It's quite a game getting the 12v to it though because there is some kind of insulation sealing the plug top where the wire goes into pin 1.

You have to makes a=sure you get through that insulation to the connector proper.

I did it by pushing a needle through the insulation and then touching the needle with a 12v lead. from the jump starting point near it....even then.... I had to put downward pressure on the needle to make good contact.

Maybe thats why you couldn't get yours to fire?....make sure your 12v actually gets through to the contact.

I'm sure I did but I will try again. I'm still unsure of the errors , the circulating pump and the combustion air fan. Would these show as faults if the fault was somewhere else in the first place. I've got to check the circulating pump but without taking it off I'm not sure which wire is meant to be live ...
Thanks

Faults or errors, 12v on Pin1 should still make the bugger fire up !

I have managed to run the bmw scanner and it brought this up , can anyone help with what it means please?
Is the circulation pump the only faulty bit I don't really understand the readout .
