Further endorsement from a much earlier post from the makers, that these tyres are matched for use on BMW. Wrong engine is noted but ill not bother on that.

I have way too many sets of wheels, its time to rationalise. All weather is the obvious solution. I'll keep the full winter spec Pirelli's for the time being, just in case.

Interesting. Might look at their Wintrac set. BMW are using Vredestein as one of the OEM options. Getting them in 19” fitments has been the problem I’ve faced. My winters run on 19”, Summer in 20”.

I think im on record as saying that i view the ☆ system with some scepticism. Any excuse to walk away and blame something other than your own engineering is pretty pathetic. Mashed gearboxes because ot tyres is not an issue, afaik with Land Rover. They however have plenty of other things to deal with.

Agreed. Even in the handbooks it says ‘recommended’ as I would suspect if challenged BMW might find that could be an unfair contract if they insisted but I have read of instances where they’ve walked away. Having the courage to test that is the opportunity.

I plan to acquire the Vredesteins in due course. At least one member has used their Vorti sumner tyre without issue.

I dislike being held to ransome..

Thanks for the info, which is definitely worth knowing, I change my 21” summers to 19” winters towards the end of October each year and have done for the last few years, but it’s a lot of hassle. I have just had a set of 20” wheels refurbished and painted and put new Dunlop sports max gt tyres on them, moved from 21” for a better ride quality mainly, but this could be a great way forward as the Winters will want changing after next winter.

Shame they don't do them in my size.
Having said that, I've done probably 40k miles on non-approved tyres with no issues - yet.

IMHO, the difference is that Land Rover products (well, at least the ones with the engine and transmission the right way round.......) have a centre diff rather than a transfer box.

I lost count of the number of diff/transfer box failures I had when a Fleet Manager. We used Disco Mk2 TD5 and a single V8, with a fleet of about 20. Both types were used for towing 1.5T trailers and fitted as mobile labs. It’s the main reason I have never bought one - they were brilliant when they worked, but broke too often. Dealers weren’t good back then (late 80’s to early 2000’s). At one point we seriously considered Landcruisers instead, but not enough dealers.

I hope modern LRs are better.

I’ve been using their Ultrac Vorti summer tyres on the X6 for about 8 years with no issues up to now (fingers crossed) - great all round performance, I love them.
Struggled to get the rears last time I needed some though, had to order from Italy as no UK suppliers had them.

Has anyone any experience of the Wintrac Pro? I can get it in 19” as I need a full set for the X6. Refitting 13 year old Pirelli Scorpion M&S tyres might be a tad unwise!

I haven’t needed to fit winters to anything as the last few have been very mild, however running the i4 in winter conditions with 500+bhp might be ‘interesting’, so I’m looking a replacing the X6 winter set. A winter set for the i4 is significantly more expensive due to the alloys needing to be rated for 1,800lbs each (the i4 is heavier than the X6).

I have Wintrac pros on my Touareg, i rate them, in fact the brand seems to be under appreciated all round.

I have Wintac Extreme (2nd set 4 years old about) on a set of 19" wheels for the E53 haven't needed them in sunny Sussex for probably 10 years (we haven't even had a really heavy frost let alone snow) but trips into France Skiing and Germany to see friends mean they are well used every year.
I have nothing for the E70 but as the tyres are nearing change I am looking at Cross Contact/All Season tyres. Or as I don't have room for another set of wheels. What genius in BMW decided to change spigot sizes ?? I am considering finding 19" wheels to fit the E70 and swapping the tyres then keeping spigot rings for the E53
I will stay with Wintrac when the winters are replaced probably next year

BMW have changed the bolt pattern now too. 5x112 on new cars. They were 5x120.
