SE or M Sport ?

Post by 5wany » Sun Oct 16, 2011 10:42 pm

Was in dealers this weekend and flamed the fire of desire for a new e70, wifey seems keen enough now as well 8-)

So built an 40D M sport (on 19" wheels) and 40D SE both same spec with SE having dynamic, 20" (to get extended wheel archs), both cars within £200 of each other (just north 60k list).

Was wondering what others thought between the models.

I like both to look at, facelift SE is much nicer with more paint coverage on bumpers, but you cant deny the M Sport is one sultry looking motor. :dizzy:

Spec'ed the M sport on 19" as this will reduce the risk of chipping on rear arches & kerbing -- still looks good.

On my e53 I liked having the side step to stand on to help wash roof car (yup I'm a short arse), & this is one of a few considerations for an SE.

All comments welcome and chip in with ideas / recomendations.

Cheers

I've just purchased the MSport on 20s (with a set of 19 winters). I much prefer the aggressive stance of the MSport and although the SE looks great in the brochure, it lacks a little visually in reality.

One problem I understand with the running boards is that they are a dirt trap, and prone to getting your trousers / whatever dirty when you climb into the car. I'm reasonably tall (6ft) and to wash the roof I open the door and stand on the ledge (I have the M Sport 40d). Other factors are resale value - I imagine that an SE specced up to M Sport spec will be a fair bit lower than the M Sport. Plus there are things you can't get on the SE e.g. M sport steering wheel and M sport branding on door plates (if that does anything for you) plus I personally prefer the look of the M Sport.

I got a 40d M Sport in July. List price 59k but paid 52.5k - make sure you negotiate a good discount. Also got excellent trade-in on my 3 yr old 320d touring, so I was delighted.

Good point re the discount, especially as it's relatively late in its cycle with the X5 version 3 presumably coming in a couple of years. I used an internet service who was fortunate to find a dealer not too far away who sold me one at a slight loss to hit their sales quota (which then triggered a large bonus to them from BMW HQ). Bought in April and list price incl service pack was c£65k, paid c£55k. Didn't trade anything in - kept it as my old car's worth more to me than I'd get for it.

Come on PVR, you know you want to ... :poke:

£52k, didn't pay much more for my first 3 bed semi - oh how the other half live.... Just jealous of course.

I would have the M- sport for the look else you need to spend on wheels plus aero kit etc.

Agree with stage of e70 life cycle, and did consider holding of as the third generation X5 will most likely be lighter more bhp, more mpg, improved interiour etc....
But by my reckoning it's a 2014MY with late Q4 2013 launch date. It's only going to get dearer with no discounts for at least the first 6-12 months. Which with all things considered makes a wait of 3yrs for me. So I taking the plunge now.

I agree its a sh1t load of money, but I've worked fairly hard over the years and sacrificed a fair bit, so with a decent discount, my dream motor with almost ;) my ideal spec is within my reach.

Have been offered a 10% discount from one dealer (no so good p/x though), still waiting on another few to get back to me. I have a target price in mind so we'll see how it goes, but hopefully get order placed within the week though to secure Dec delivery.

MJim, do you wanna negociate for me ..£10k discount..., I could live with that :D might even add more spec
Thanks guys

Def deals to be had, will keep pushing for best though, in at one of the quoting dealers to test drive 30D & 40D so will be a bit clearer tomorrow which one to go for.

Who knows they may come up with something special to get me to sign a deal when I'm in ;)
