Best bike rack/holder

Just wanted to know opinions on best solution. I don't like the racks that go on the boot but want to securely fit to roof. Seen a funky winch system which lifts the bike from the ground and holds it vertical on the roof. Quite expensive, the parts guy said u can get a bike holder for the roof , anyone had any experience.

do you have a towbar? i have a smart little reack that fits to the ball on the towbar so the rack and bike is knowhere near the paint

i use mont blanc baracuda racks on the roof but Im impressed with this :

I use a thule set up roof bars and carriers and can't fault it....though it does help if you are over 6 foot tall mind ....it's a long way up there
