Check Brake Linings

Post by n1k85 » Sun Jan 01, 2012 6:56 pm

Hi Guys,

I've had the 'Check Brake Linings' and Brake Light on the Dash since I picked the car up a few weeks ago.

I bought a new set of Front Mintex Pads and the Wear Sensor, and today I (my brother... ) set about swapping them out.

As you can see, the old Front pads were beyond dead: :|

Image

The whole process went like a dream and took about 30 mins, but when we'd finished the brake light was still on and the 'Check Brake Linings' is still there. The new sensor was fitted without any issues.

The rear pads seem to be pretty new and have loads of life left on so we didn't touch these, so how do I kill this brake light?

Any help would be great!

Thanks :)

Have you left the car running for a while? It doesn't need a diag reset, just enough time...

Mine did that and then left it a while and it went out by itself.

If rear pads have been changed do you know if the rear sensor has been changed?

hmmm, I'm only assuming the rear pads have recently been changed as the fronts were as thin as sheets of Rizla, but the rears looked like they had loads of meat on.

I'll whip the wheels off again tomorrow and have a proper gander at the rears, and the sensor :)

Thanks all (BTW, I tried the ignition on for 2 minutes method and it didn't clear it)

Try longer - just take it for a spin, use it normally. Should clear.

Check Brake Linings

I'd deffo take it for a good 20 min drive mine cleared itself, failing that check the rears, the pad on the inside nearest the piston could be worn really low too but you won't see that unless you get the wheel off or strip it right down

Will take longer than 2 mins tbh to clear. As others have said you will need to just use the car and it will usually just clear.

I seem to remember a process of turning ignition to position 2 with the door open and leaving it for 10 seconds, then starting the engine and switching off should clear the message.

That might not be 100% accurate but it's something like that.

Instructions would have been here or X Outpost so try a search.

Thanks, I'll try it tonight :)

I've driven 20 odd miles on the new brakes so far and the light and 'check brake linings' is still there :(
