CD Changer back from the dead

Post by LFP » Sun Jan 08, 2012 8:04 pm

Having recently bought an X5 I've now started fixing all those little quirks that a 'pre-loved' car can have. First off was the mental alarm that went off when it felt like it. Bonnet switch sorted that.

Today was the turn of the CD changer. Dead as a dodo. No whirring or clicking noises, no mis feeds. Just nothing. Checked the fuse and disconnected the power with no joy. I bid on a few secondhand ones on eBay and lost though as someone remarked on this forums there's no guarantee you're buying a working one. Anyway, gave up on eBay and found a company that refurbs them and was only a short drive away. Handed the unit over and 90 min later it was all done. Not bad for a Sunday. Chap reckoned the motor unit had failed. All I know is it now works - result. £70 and some free advice about repairing the sat nav unit.

Incidentally, had a hilarious moment yesterday when I thought the seat belt warning lights had malfunctioned as it kept on telling me to put my seatbelt on, despite already wearing it. After a lot of swearing at the dashboard I took my heavy bag off the passenger seat and it stopped. Ahem.

Next, sat nav.

CD Changer back from the dead

I had a similar "dopey" moment when I first picked mine up. Pulled into petrol station to fill up and couldn't work out how to open the flap... Ended up driving out and parking up to read the manual a bit....doh
