Active susp inactive

Post by X5Driver » Wed Mar 07, 2012 4:45 pm

As you may be aware I had this error come up within 3 days of owning the X5. It's booked in for a check tomorrow and I'll update when I have news but just wanted to say its bouncy as hell and squeaks like a mouse with its tail trapped in a door.... Bl00dy embarrassing !!

Tbh. When I bought my 4.8 it was sat completely down as the control module had gone caput but it didn't squeal at all apart from when the rear balljoint went.
Tbh. When I bought my 4.8 it was sat completely down as the control module had gone caput but it didn't squeal at all apart from when the rear balljoint went.
was thinkin that but i've not had this situ so thought of not givin my 5c worth and givin an unnecessary heart attack!..

active suspension gone means the air baloons wouldn't get air pressure so car would sit lower down. that CAN theoretically make the arms and bushes work at an angle which is not well worked, but i wouldn't expect so much of squeaks etc... if its really so noisy that could indicate bad joints/bushes etc. bouncy it could be cos the sus must be bottomin out all the time.

anyways the good news is u've already booked a checkup tomorrow so u'll soon find out, bad news is that i suspect that it might be more than just the active sus.

More than the active suspension being what raj ? It's got a warrantee so hopefully it'll be sorted. Got a bill for over a £1000 a few months ago for a suspension arm I think and It didnt make this noise before the light came on (drive everywhere with window down as it sounds so nice) my theory was as its so hard there is minimal springing and the only movement is in the bushes if that makes sense like I said before the light and bumpy ride there was no noise

Oh yeah forgot to say ride height is normal and light is on next to middle setting on adjustable height switch but if I push down or up light flashes then goes solid again at middle setting

Ok Just got back from Howard BMW in Redruth formerly Mavro Matis and I can thoroughly recommend this garage as a trustworthy independent.

Their workshop is clean and tidy and the guys there are very friendly and knowledgable, upto my usual questioning as I like to kow whats what. Andy the main man took my X5 for a drive and reckons its nice and tight and drives very well a well looked after example which is a relief.

The self levelling susp inac message was cleared and showed a fault with the accumulator and only once so once cleared and a 20 mile drive back no warning light so fingers crossed. Also the ride is better and the squeaking that I said about is still there a little over quite jarring bumps but 90% gone again as it was doing it over manhole covers etc so thats good. Andy did suggest my trunions maybe worn.

The squeak from the engine we think is either tensioner below alternator and he has apparently done a few on x5's or alternator so its booked in next friday to have tensioner done and ill keep you up to date hoping that this information will help someone else.

I am one relieved chap!
