Just to keep information on the forum I took the X5 to local Indy (Howard BMW top guys) as there was a whine ruining the v8 sound turned out it was the idler above the alternator that had a dodgy bearing which was much better than the alternator.
Also I asked them to look at changing the bush in the swing arm type bit that are about £30 but on closer inspection the other end bush had gone and apparently you can't get them so it had a whole new arm at over £300 + labour which the dealer I purchased from paid for. I'll post pics tomorrow of the bush, it was absolutely destroyed and looked pretty dangerous Anyway squeak now gone.
