Panoramic Roof

Post by X5Driver » Thu Mar 22, 2012 3:22 pm

My X has the panoramic roof installed and it works perfectly at the moment but I understand that these are prone to failure so after noticing not a clunk but a gentle thud when opening to vent I decided that it must be sticking. I have seen that its open to debate whether to lubricate the mechanism or not so left that alone but what I did was sprayed silicone around the black plastic edging of the glass as this wont let any dirt stick and boy did it make a difference. No more clunking and hopefully this will save a bit of strain on the roof as they say every little helps!. Just thought I would mention it as it may appeal to someone else on the forum

I had the same/similar with mine. Initially the dealer adjusted it under warranty but after that, and like you, I sprayed 3 in 1 Silicone onto a cloth and wiped round the edges. It works for a while and then needs a 'refresh'. Towards the end of owning the car we just stopped using the roof altogether 'just in case' and not trusting Warranty Direct to come to our aid if it failed, even though we had franchised Dealer cover included.
:ant: Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
