Hi Guys,
Finally picked up an X5. its 2001 4.4 sport. They said its a titan spec which i'm unsure of what all that includes?
Everything seems ok on it touch wood and its running great.
I need to read the manual so I know how all the gadgets work but a couple quick questions which are annoying me.
The seat memory. When we 1st got it I just changed the seats with electric buttons and worked fine. But my Wife started pressing memory buttons by accident and now every time we start car or turn of the steering column pushes out or in. How do I switch it back to manual mode so that doesn't happen?
Also since she messing about with that when in reverse the left side mirror tilts down which I don't remember it doing. is this something to do with a button she's pressed? and should both not tilt?
Any other quick tips much appreciated.
one last question The sat nav is obv very dated. its the one with tiny screen and all buttons are on the right hand side. Is their another sat nav I can fit which would fit flush and like OEM. I've seen links for ones for the newer x5 but not mine
Thanks & fingers crossed for trouble free ownership

Reversing Mirror....
If the mirror switch is set to the right then the left mirror 'drops' so you avoid the evil that is known as 'The Kerb'....
Key Memory - pick a key and call it key 1. Unlock the car with that key. Switch on etc. If you now set the seat to the position you want, and the steering wheel and the mirrors, press the 'Set' button (it lights up) and then Memory 1, those settings are stored for that key. Switch off, lock the car with the same key.
Unlock the car with the second key and repeat, but use Memory button 2. Out and lock the car with that key. Now the settings are preserved against each key.
No manual system unless you get it programmed out again - by a Dealer, or if you own a coding unit. All the settings are stored on the key and everything sets up for the right driver.
The steering wheel always restricts and lifts when you take the key out. BMW do it to make it easier to get in and out....all their cars with the powered steering column do this, including the latest ones.
Sounds like you have a Mark 3 Nav with a CD Drive in the boot. Not sure if you can simply swap out both ends and put a widescreen head plus Mk4 DVD Nav Drive in on the same wiring.
Otherwise you're looking at an aftermarket system like a Hualingan........in which case there's a few who have done it on here.
Oh and welcome....

Hi entropy
Congrats on the v8! The memory function is paired to each key I think so is it just you and your missus using different keys? Sounds obvious but it confused me a while back! I'm sure someone more savvy will be along soon to help!

Welcome to the forum!
Memory keys could be individually programmed to the car (it was a dealer request). Once you have it, you can setup what settings you want and that would be remembered to that key in the ignition. Set them up as you would like for your key and then her settings for her key. See if that works.
Mirror dip as X5Sport mentions is the slider switch - to the left and it will dip, to the right and it won't. Only the passenger side will dip.
OEM SatNav screens of the newer type might just be plug and play in your car. Just need to check it has a blue and white connector in the back. If so, they are roughly £250 to buy. I would get this one out, check the back and then see if you can find another which you can try before committing. Or you can have a look at the Hualingan units which are mentioned on the forum - just use the Search option. You may like a new setup altogether.

Re: Wahoo i'm in the club!
Hi and welcome aboard.
Key memories as discussed, set each key with the corresponding memory button and should all be good.
I love the reversing tilt nearside mirror as helps a lot when running big rimmage.
As for the OE satnav, the smaller screen isn't great. The widescreen unit is better and definitely the DVD nav drive is a better unit too. Your OE unit will be upgradeable to the slightly more updated newer setup.
Depending upon where abouts you are, i'm happy to let you try my widescreen unit that I've removed. Try before you buy if you like.
