I have a 2004 X5 3.0d, had a flat battery a few months ago, charged it over night and all seemed fine, until last week, the mrs drove for an hour tuesday morning to a course, got there early, and sat in the X5 for 45-60 mins with the radio and sidelights on. At the end of the day when she went to leave the battery was flat.
RAC gave it enough charge to get it home, then I charged it over night again, and again all seemed fine.
She is on the same course again tomorrow so thought i'd connect the battery charger back up to it to see what it was showing. Once connected the battery charger started automatically charging, and has been for the last 3 hours, and it still isnt showing the battery as charged
I dont know if the charger is right for the battery, its is 8 Amps and is switched to 'maintenace free' option -
So I need some advice
- Do I have a problem?
- What size is the battery on my X5 3.0d?
- Am I using the correct charger/setting?
Thanks in advance
John

X5 3.0d battery question
Re: X5 3.0d battery question
i had similar battery symptoms with my 04 X5, occurred not once but a few times - fortunately at home whilst playing with the audio, setting up my amp, playing with the scanner, etc..
replaced with a bosch S5 from ECP (search this forum for a discount code). that's been the end of my battery worries.
the car battery in general should not require an external charge, unless ur car is used very rarely. the issue given that its an 04reg the battery prob is still the original and its run its lifetime.
so id stop worrying whether its the right charge etc on your external charger, just swap the battery with a new one
cheers

Re: X5 3.0d battery question
Hi John.
As above really. It's more likely the battery is on its last legs, obviously dependant upon how old the battery is, etc? But if after a charge it starts losing charge again then probably does need replacing.
What charger is it?
Also, sitting for an hour with sidelights on and radio then a full day of sitting isn't the best tbh though.
PS. John, do you remember the reversing camera I bought off you last year? Where did you get it as need to find out what vehicle it's for. Thanks.

I think you'll find they're talking about using Euro Car Parts and a discount code to go with it
http://xdrivers.co.uk/forum/https://xdr ... ic.php?t=9
MGRORG25 gets you 25% off but there may be better (but rarer ) codes for 30%..the ECP splash screen usually shows time limited promo codes whereas MGRORG25 works all the time (for limited parts)
