Coolant overflow pipe

Post by DougieV8 » Mon Sep 03, 2012 10:23 am

Mine cracked yesterday and therefore fired coolant all over engine bay! Warning on dashboard and puddle of coolant under car was confirmation there was an issue!

This is the small pipe (est 10mm dia) that is shaped around the bottle at top - When I removed it to replace it was very brittle and just started to break up into bits.

All sorted now with a more pliable pipe now in place, just topped up with water for now.

Just a warning to all - Beware!

Thanks for the warning! The exact same pipe went brittle and snapped on mine too.

Cost about £28 if I recall from the main stealer. Quite expensive I thought considering how small it is.

Suppose that's the price for owning a BMW!

Also might be worth checking the coolant bottle isn't leaking as I had to replace that as well as mine was leaking at the bottom.

Thanks
James

Ok - will have a check around bottle.

Pipe that I used was better quality and not expensive. I attempted the repair without original part as it was Sunday.
