TV upgrade to Digital

Post by rjkc600 » Tue Sep 25, 2012 8:17 pm

Chaps.

Can anyone help me with upgrading my non working analogue TV to digital?

I fancy DIY'ing this, so if anyone has a guide or perhaps some links to what i need to buy?

Id like TV in motion also.

Cheers! :D

eBay for the Digi box which can be wired in and then viewed through the AV channel or you have to go for the expensive OEM hybrid tuner...

TV-in-Motion can be done with the cable @ £45 or using Indy coding through an Autologic/or Scanner (DIY)

Tbh - the OEM ones are £300 to £350 but plug-and-play and will work in harmony with the car.

The add-ons are cheaper but a compromise. Want to go down that road? If so, will drop you link in the morning... Let me know.

Oh and either option are rubbish when on the move! Sure you want to spend that kind of money?

fair point, i don't really want poor coverage, so are all the 'TV in motion' packages poor when actually on the move?

Yes, analogue was better but no longer available.

And cable or software will make no difference to the quality of the signal, just opening the restriction...

Except in Northern Ireland of course..... :). Tyne Tees was the last Mainland area and went off last night... :cry1:

And that means that the digital transmitter powers can now be ramped up to maximum so coverage on the move may improve - though mobile systems were never part of the original planning.  ;)

The end of all UK analogue broadcasts will be at midnight tonight (23rd Oct), and that also means the loss of Ceefax.....for those that care about these things... ;)

I am unsure if mines is Digital or Analog, but guessing I'll find out in the morning! Reception is good once parked, but as soon as you get on the move, it's broken and distorted images. Besides being a fine for driving with front screen on, wouldn't really risk my beast for some East enders! No matter how much the Mrs nattered on about it! Nice though, when I got the boys in the car, drop the Mrs to Tesco and sit there and watch cartoons!

If your car was built after October 2004 it's a hybrid tuner with both Analogue and Digital capability.  Before then it will be Analogue only.  There's some re-organising of the channels going on so a retune may be needed in your area anyway (we've had to redo ours twice in the Eastern UK this month).

Well for anyone still unsure,  if your X's telly is still receiving a picture then you have a digital, or more likely, a hybrid digital/analogue tuner given that analogue is now officially switched off  ;)
