Finally picked up a nice 56 plate 3.0d sport last week....and having looked at many of them, finally went for an uber rare manual. I know the auto is nice and smooth, but i actually found the 6 speed manual to be pretty slick, not hugely different from my old 330ci and like the way it drives. Anyway, first trip was a 700 mile round trip up to the Lakes with a car full of people and bikes and I love it!
Great long distance cruiser and fantastic handling for such a big car. I had a couple of questions though that i thought the knowledgable folk on here might be able to help with:
1. The doors don't auto-lock when you set off like they did in my old beemer. Is there any way to get this programmed without having to go to a dealer? Quite nice to have the security on the streets of London!
2. How do you adjust the speed volume thing for the stereo? I have the nav unit and couldn't see any option for it.
3. Is there any way to dim the sat nav screen at night or is there some form of night mode? Seems quite punchy even with the main light cluster dimmer turned down.
4. Can i turn off the sat nav voice and just have directions? I seem to have the firmware upgrade as i do have the perspective maps, but can't see any way to switch her off, just toned down a bit.
Thanks guys!

Hi norhernlight and congratulations on your new X5. Great car, :drive: However this thread is crying out for a bucket load of pictures.

I haven't had a E53 since 07, so out of touch on the workings of the sat nav etc. So I'll leave the answers to those that know best.

you can do this with the scanner 1.4.0. if u don't like to diy its a config setting for the dealer.

2. How do you adjust the speed volume thing for the stereo? I have the nav unit and couldn't see any option for it.

not sure, but its possible cos its working in mine. maybe somebody else can help.

i've read that night-mode is possible with the 2013/latest release. i don't have it and even mine glows like a light in teh night. you can of course turn the brightness down in the night but that is less than ideal.

4. Can i turn off the sat nav voice and just have directions? I seem to have the firmware upgrade as i do have the perspective maps, but can't see any way to switch her off, just toned down a bit.

in the menu option 'configurations' (?) you can set the relative volume of the sat nav. relative in comparison to the stereo (radio/cd/etc)

Re: New X5 - Couple of Questions!
Thanks for the reply guys.
Managed to find the speed volume thing in the end (hold the select button when you first switch the ignition on and toggle > until to get to GAL.).
Might invest in the scanner 1.4.0 thing, sounds like it might be the easiest way for the locks!

I have the intravee for my iPod which has settings for locking the doors. Lock at approx 10mph and unlock when park selected. Not sure if it would work on a manual though. Also allows other easy tweaks such as auto folding mirrors, min number of flashes on indicators.
