Pic request: Back of satnav unit
Hi all,
I'm looking to get an X5 with rear tv screens and wanting to know how they are fed from the headunit? or if they're independant - could I have them switched so by default they showed what the main headunit does but then you could 'switch' to independant and watch your own thing?
I'm looking at buying this unit that a member on bmw5 forum has just bought and is raving about (no affiliation to the company in china atall)
Thread: http://forum.bmw5.co.uk/topic/71462-so- ... -week-dec/
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtUjyX5rZWw
so wondering if it's just RCAs to put in the back or further electrics would be needed?

Re: Pic request: Back of satnav unit
That's a Dynavin unit.
I've done a thread on the Hualingan unit (there are loads of others who've done them too).
This is the newer unit from Dynavin with the bigger screen. It will have all the connections in the back to run screens. All are phono so you'll have no issues. Just need to run the cabling.
Be warey of these units though, returns are pain and alternator noise can be hard to resolve. Go double-din Alpine/Kenwoord/Pioneer and have half the hassle. But just my opinion after testing one.

I'd recommend a double din unit too. I'm running a Pioneer and its superb by comparison to these units.

Hi guys
I've just joined having only bought my X5 a month ago and I too have been looking into these aftermarket units. In my last car I had a full multimedia set up with DVD player and ipod so am missing it now with my factory fit satnav unit. Having looked at the dynavin and the other units my only concern is would I lose the on board computer display from the screen as i have now or do these units allow for that?

The dynavin/hualingan units do retain the OBC stuff but double din units like Pioneer, etc will mean you lose that functionality.

Re: Pic request: Back of satnav unit
So Raj does that mean you can still do all the MPG resets and control the aux heater/vent timings etc? And is it a straight plug in job or does the wiring all have to be modified from the back of the car?

Sorry buddy just found out that the dynavin/hualingan units actually don't retain the OBC functions as first thought. But they are direct fit as far as I'm aware.

Re: Pic request: Back of satnav unit
I have the Dynavin E39 A 99 platform headunit, it displays OBC on one screen, and I still have it on the Binnacle, but I have the old MID unit in the glove box so I can reset the MPG, clock etc.
Mine didnt have OEM satnav so it was an upgrade, if you have the OEM nav you have to run a cable to the rear radio module as well, and you wont have the MID to put in the glove box either.
I now get Bluetooth, ( which you can pair too !!!! ) DVD, 7" tooch screen satnav (3d Igo8 Primo 2 ) touch screen radio and CD, Micro SD slot for music. Full Ipod/Iphone integration, with menus on screen, also Ipod/Iphone charging. (no problems with the alternator interferance as with early models. OEM Looks, PDC graphics of how far away and which sensor ,same as on my E60 on Idrive screen. steering wheel controls integrated. This unit takes 10 years off the very dated, unuser friendly OEM head unit.
B!tch to fit though. OEM OBC is handy, but not that brill, sometimes you dont want to know how many MPG you are doing.!!! as for stopwatch and average speed, whats that all about.
As for returns if you use Auto-electronics on ebay, they have a waranty/repair facility in Manchester. I believe alot have bought through Tints, which may have you send them back to China for repair Allegedly.

Bloody excellent replies people! Particularly a first hand user!!!!!
I'd seen on bimmerforums someone relocate the obc to the glove box - which is what I'd do if I could find a e53 without nav???
If not and it comes and does come with nav - I'm sure I could code an OBC to work first and relocate to glovebox then add in the new headunit?....surely?...
Did you get Dvbt atall? Would just be a gimmick for my son...
