Home & Happy!

Post by RiDDO » Wed Jan 02, 2013 10:09 pm

Evening Forumites,

Happy New Year to you all.

Arrived home tonight after a 1,000 mile round trip to Scotland. My X has performed beautifully, returning 31.3 MPG over the trip, and did just over 600 miles to a tank, with a range showing 42 miles to empty, when the Ultimate Diesesel nozzle was inserted. I was quite impressed. The return journey was fun, with the gearbox in 'Sport' mode for the last 80 miles or so (to let the engine 'deep breathe' officer!), her ears were pricked back, and I let the girl stride into a full gallop on several occasions, ooh happy days! After 7 years in 3 transit vans it was an absolute blast to hack home in something so cosseting, and not have to spend a couple of hours 'undriving' once we arrived!

A gentle re-map for more torque, and a few extra horses is now under serious consideration.

Hopefully my new headlight bulbs will be here on Friday, it will be interesting to see if there is any significant  improvements, more to follow.

Got a wonky foldy mirror on the passenger side, it's folding in ok, but not folding out when I ask it too. Ho hum!

Oh, and I think I've lost a glow plug on one cylinder, small puff of smoke on start up and lumpy/uneven idle for about 15 seconds after the initial start in a morning.

Still after 26,000 London miles and lots of start stops my 6 year old got the exercise such an engine deserves to do, (I wonder if it is the longest journey the car has done!), and in the process put a huge smile on my face today between Wetherby and home, meep meep, whoosh!

Nice one Riddo,

Always good to stretch the legs and as you pointed out, a great place to be on a long journey.
