Mine doesn't fit in the oem hole so I just keep it in the right hand side compartment where the fuses are

I had similar prob , however , the place you have found I think is where it shud go . Mine fits fine but then I
have a 17'' spare not bigger , so the 'shaft' fits in the gap and the ball goes between spare wheel and the
wheel-well .

Hi Mikkee,

Turn the detached towbar upside down so that the ball hangs down.
Make sure you have the plastic cover on the tow ball to protect the paint - better still - use a tennis ball.
Cover the greased socket end to protect the plastic and keep the grease in - I use a sanwich bag with elastic band!

Now simply lower into the space so that the ball end goes down the side of the tyre.

Westfalia should have supllied the velcro holding strap which just bolts into place.
The trick here is to lift the ball up as you tighten the velcro strap so that the towbar is held firmly and doesn't knock on the body work.

I just popped out and took a quick iPhone pic in the dark to help -  ;)

Yup that's where I've got it , but don't have the velcro strap . Will try to get one .
But in actual fact mine fits quite snugly with no rattling/vibration .
