Front tension strut bushes splitting.

Post by ITBarbie » Fri Jan 25, 2013 9:23 am

Hi guys and gals

Took the X into BMW yesterday for inspection 1 and got report back.

Benn told the front strut bushes splitting and should get work done in next few months.  Been quotes £327.

Feeling a bit out my depth here.  Is that a fair quote.  The cars a 2004 so an independent is definitely worth looking at.  Is it a bugger of a job and has anyone got an idea if that's a fair price as I'm always looking to save a few quid :-)

Hi,

There was a post of mine rather enthusiastic here last week but somebody erased it >:D
You might want to check out www.bmminiparts.com and  ecstuning.com.

THey've got huge discounts for original bmw parts for 40-60, even 70% sometimes.
Don't know how they do it, they just do, don't know if you'll find those parts but....

It's THE best place to start!

A panorama repair kit i think retails in romania for about 800-1000 euros, found it on ecstunig for 130 USD :))

Cheers

Hi it's definitely worth having a look for a good Indy.  I used to get all the work on my M5 done at BMW but found an Indy who is a M master technician.  I don't remember how much BMW charge for one hours labour I have a feeling it about £100.  The bulk of the quote you got will be labour as I am pretty certain the bushes aren't expensive but am no expert on the X5.  It is a job that can be done at home but I don't do mechanic things lol.

Thanks for for the info.  I will be researching with an independent before any decisions are made.  The majority is labour charges but not that much.  They're quoting £140 something for parts and the rest is labour.
